NEXT EVENT: Sunday, Late July 2018

Thank you to all who entered a team in the Rotary North-East Dragon Boat Challenge last year. The event raised over £1,600 for local charities

The Dragon Boats event is held annually at Hetton Lyons Country Park. The event is organised by North East Rotary and is open to Businesses, Charities, and other organisations (fire and ambulance services, departments of local Authorities) sports and other clubs, schools, PTA’s etc.

The event has been a great success and very well attended with dozens of stalls as well as fairground rides and entertainment from dancing displays to incredible bands and singers.

Our food stall, selling hot food, drinks and cakes raised £757 for good causes.

You have the opportunity to be part of this fantastic event

Teams of 20 consisting of 16 paddlers, a drummer and 3 reserves raced in Chinese-style Dragon Boats over a 250mtr. course. Crews do not need to be super fit or skilled to be successful - all that is required was teamwork and a good sense of fun!

Dragon Boat racing is steeped in mythology and has been around for many thousands of years in China. Popular legend has it that through the racing, Chinese dragons would bring rain. We hope this will not be the case again next year.

The racing is run by leading events company ”Dragon Boat Events Ltd” who provide the boats, helms, safety equipment, buoyancy aids and rescue boats.

The Reason...

The Dragon Boat Festival is a unique event, which allows you to choose the charity for which you want to raise money. Each team that enters the races selects a charity and ALL the money raised through sponsorship goes to that charity.

The Entertainment...

Have a fun day, with fairground attractions, side stalls and entertainment for all the family - children and adults...
bring your friends and a picnic.

The Rewards...

Each crew will race with 16 paddlers plus the drummer. However, we encourage teams to involve a few extra and to make available roughly 20 people on the day, all raising money. The entry fee is - about £400.00 per team to cover the event costs. A deposit of £100.00 per team is required - See registration form link below.

The Opportunities...

...for your team to raise funds through this event are endless. Many teams raise around £4,000, some up to £7,000, and¬ one year a¬ team raised¬ almost £17,000 in Dragon Boat racing across the country! Try for company sponsorship and/or raise funds for your boat prior to the event with wine tasting evenings, raffles etc.
